Hawfields Presbyterian
Church was founded by settlers in the mid 1700s. The present
sanctuary, constructed in 1854, occupies one of three sites used by the
congregation over the years. An Educational Building, Fellowship Hall,
and century-old Session House also occupy the grounds. The two-story
3,000 sq. ft. manse is separated from the church facilities by several acres
of wooded property.
Hawfields offers both a contemporary service on Saturday evenings and a
traditional worship service on Sunday mornings. On average 181 of our
415 active members attend weekly. Sunday School is offered for all
ages on Sunday mornings with 75 regular attendees. We offer a nursery
for infants/toddlers, classes for pre-school, elementary, middle and high
school age children, and five adult classes. During worship, young
children may participate in “Hawfields Hangout” on Saturday nights and Jr.
Church on Sunday mornings.
Eleven ministry committees include Building/Grounds, Compassion, Education, Fellowship, Finance, Laity, Outreach, Service/Missions, Staff, Stewardship, and Worship/Music. Other programs include active Women’s Circles, Men’s Group, Bible Study, Adult and Youth Fellowship Groups. In addition to the regular opportunities offered for worship and spiritual nurture, the church collects food for those in need, maintains a supply of sick-room equipment, operates a church library, supplies a tape ministry to shut-ins, and offers scouting programs for boys and girls.
Hawfields offers many spiritual programs to enable our congregation to
mature in their faith and build disciples. The Presbyterian Women are
organized into four active circles, serving locally as well as Cluster
Enablers. The Men’s Group and Youth Groups are working and growing in
the church and beyond. The Sunday School program at Hawfields serves
to heighten the faith and discipleship of all attendees. We also
publish an informative monthly newsletter.
Our members grow in their faith by not only attending church events, but in
giving of their time and talents to develop fellowship and educational
opportunities for the church. Many adults coordinate and teach the
Rotation Sunday School program and many others are involved in adult classes
or Bible Study. Children’s activities such as holiday parties, the
children’s music program, and annual Christmas play are well-supported.
Our Community Days festival is successful in exposing new people to our
church, members, and mission.
Hawfields strives to serve our congregation and the surrounding communities
as well. Over 20 of our members (adult and youth) have participated in
local and international mission trips. We have an active Greeting
program at both worship services designed to reach out to current and
potential members. We provide a monthly worship and communion service
to the residents of the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields and reach out to
families with young children through the Hawfields Child Care Center.
